::. Human Pathogen Registration ProgramNew Registrations: PI DashboardAt the NIH, the principal method by which potential exposure information for laboratory personnel is gathered is with the Human Pathogen Registration Document (HPRD) form. All Principal Investigators (PIs) working with human pathogens; human blood, body fluids, or tissues; biological toxins; and the blood, tissues, or body fluids of old-world non-human primate (NHP) species must submit a properly completed HPRD to the NIH Biosafety Officer for subsequent review by the NIH IBC. All new HPRD submissions are being taken electronically using our web-based online submission system called PI Dashboard. PI Dashboard can be used securely from any computer with internet access and allows PIs to see all the information they need through their own user profile. This registration submission and update process is streamlined, thus making administrative changes and revisions to existing registrations much easier. In addition, a research submission involving the use of rDNA and potential pathogens can be done together. Researchers are in control of their approved registrations, with the ability to add/remove labs, associated personnel, relevant linked registrations, as needed and when needed. To contact or speak with a PI Dashboard technical support representative, please e-mail support@healthrx.com or call (800) 690-3530. Amending HPRD Registrations Submitted in Paper Form (HPRD#<5000)It is the responsibility of the Principal Investigator to supply the IBC with updated research information, as well as other changes to laboratory location and research personnel. Some simple administrative changes to ‘original paper-form’ registrations (those submitted prior to July, 2009) can be done using PI Dashboard, as records are maintained from these forms which are stored electronically as PDF files. Significant amendments to existing HPRD registrations (which may require IBC review), such as the addition of a new Animal Study proposal, may be submitted by clearly describing the requested changes in a brief, formal, signed memorandum on institute letterhead, and submitting this with all necessary documents (ASP’s, amendments to ASPs, copies of vector maps, etc.) to the IBC Executive Secretary/BSO through your institute assigned Safety and Health Specialist. Please keep in mind, the RD/HPRD Dual-Use Screening Survey must be submitted with all such amendment requests. All HPRD registration documents are updated annually in cooperation with your institute assigned safety specialists. For more information, please contact your Safety and Health Specialist at (301) 496-2346.
