::. ImmunizationsOMS offers a wide array of immunizations, related counseling and diagnostic testing, as clinically indicated. Immunizations are offered based upon an occupational needs assessment and the worker’s personal medical history. For example, workers who anticipate potential contact with patients or their body fluids are offered the hepatitis B vaccine. In the case of health care providers, this is done at the time of their pre-placement physical. Researchers working with agents that are potentially infectious to humans must be registered with the Division of Occupational Health and Safety on a Human Pathogen Registration Document (HPRD). Once registered, the researcher is eligible to receive an immunization for the material they are working with, if a vaccine is available. Currently there are vaccines available for anthrax, cholera, diphtheria, hepatitis A and B, influenza, measles, meningitis, mumps, pertussis, plague, pneumoccocal, rubella, smallpox, tetanus, typhoid, and yellow fever. Work with certain agents that pose a public health concern require mandatory immunization prior to starting work, i.e., vaccinia. | ||
